Development and realization of a complety selfcalibrating XRF spectrometer for quantitative on-line analysis for a wide range of elements in highly varying matrices

Obiettivo

An energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer has been developed which will enable accurate routine analyses for trace elements and major constituents in semiinfinite samples and will be flexible enough to apply to research measurements.
A dominant part of the investigation was the theoretical approach to correcting for matrix effects in highly varying matrices. The representative matrix technique was used. To reduce the number of calibration constants, the quantification uses the fundamental parameter technique. To estimate the intensity of the scattered lines, several fitting procedures were applied and a semiempirical fit function for the incoherent scattered line was found.
An extensive evaluation tool has been written for the detailed evaluation of the spectra and communication with the personal computer (PC) has been made as simple as possible.
A prototype was made available on 02/12/92
