Obiettivo
Purpose of the project is to demonstrate the technical and economic advantages of the application of multifunctional PV facades in several regions of Europe. The project aims to demonstrate optimised concepts for integration of PV buildings (based on R&D results from the Joule program). The project will demonstrate how PV can contribute to the electricity supply in dwellings and office buildings and to the saving of fossil fuel and the reduction of polluting emissions; The project will demonstrate how local authorities and utility companies can contribute to the introduction of PV in Europe. The project will demonstrate European expertise in Photovoltaic system design and engineering. Results from the project will be important for the further development of PV facade elements both for southern and northern European regions. The project will lead to enhanced possibilities for commercialisation of grid connected PV systems, which is essential for a large scale introduction in the next century.
Innovative aspects of the project are :
- demonstration of innovative multifunctional PV facade elements
- minimisation of costs by optimisation of building integration design
- demonstration of optimised methods for system design and operation
- integration of the projects in regional action plans and green electricity schemes
- demonstration of advanced low-energy building concepts.
Cost reduction for Photovoltaic facade integration :
The use of standard components for the facade integration and active shading devices with standard frameless modules will substantially reduce the financial gap between standard rooftop PV systems and architectural well integrated PV systems.
Improvement of communication with the architects and of performance prediction :
Especially for facade applications shading effects have to be taken into account. With the use of a fish-eye photography the shading will be made visible.
This will be mainly used for discussions with the architects to help to find not only architectural but also energetic well integrated solutions. Also the prediction of the system output will be improved by the use of the fish-eye photography.
Operation and control of PV systems :
The PV systems will be monitored and the German system controlled by the PV-monitor to minimise system failure time and optimise system performance. Besides total system breakdown also string failures will be detected easily with the least possible measurement efforts. The essential routines for the PV Monitor to control the PV systems have been already investigated during former projects. Within this project it will be evaluated to introduce these routines into a cheap and proven monitoring system or even directly into dc/ac inverter.
