ARCHITECTURAL COST-EFFECTIVE INTEGRATION OF PV MODULES IN SHADING DEVICES AND FACADES OF DWELLINGS

Obiettivo

The aim of this project is to encourage the commercialization of PV-Systems demonstrated in a PV-integrated solar project of dwellings. The project demonstrates the architectural integration of 9.5 m² PV panels in the shading device of 22 solar-heated dwellings each. The integrated system has a shading function, decreases the heat load of the passive solar house, integrate PV-modules in a facade as an architectural element and produces 35% of the electricity demand for the adjacent house to reduce the final fossil energy demand and the CO2 emission. The PV-integrated facade has a high prospective in multi-family buildings, office buildings, etc. Special attention is given on the architectural aspects of the installation and the arrangement of the photovoltaic system in the facade.
The second aim is to develop a simple standard monitoring instrument which can be applied for monitoring of PV-System in dwellings in general.

1. Innovative : PV-modules integrated in shading devices in (passive) solar dwellings; the integration of structural and electrical details of the total system; the 'standard' monitoring instrument for dwellings.
2. Context : the houses will be an example for environmental and energy-conscious design. The 22 dwellings are situated in a line, south of a highway of the city. The south facade is open for passive and active solar use. The north facade/roof is nearly closed and covered with a green roof and earth. the heavy mass gives the noise-reduction. In the vertical south-south-west facade PV modules are integrated with the shading device (9.5 m² PV-modules) with a tilt of 60° and a capacity of 1.03 kWp per dwelling. The PV-modules are JRC Ispra tested. The PV-system is grid-connected. Due to the requirements of this integration the PV modules can not be delivered as a total factory-made system. The typical specifications in a relatively normal architectural design involve the design and the manufacturing of custom-built PV-modules. In general, prices will increase, however, the proposers intend to turn into decreased costs on behalf of future large scale projects. The mounting construction is strongly emphasised to improve applications smoothly. The inverter is a high efficient instrument provided with a micro-processor and a MPPT. Results of the system can be easily read out.
3. Economics : PV systems cannot be compared with conventional installations.
4. Monitoring : for the monitoring programme results are received with a PC via a RS 232 connection.
For PV systems in dwellings a standard monitoring instrument is developed, tested and demonstrated. The low-cost instrument corresponds with the national guidelines of PV system monitoring.
