European unemployment program (Phase II)

Obiettivo

The object of the program is to understand the forces behind the continuing high levels of European unemployment. The program focusses on four main issues:
(i) Skill and regional mismatch in the labour market; it is largely due to technological change and how important are market failures in explaining the continued existence of such mismatch?
(ii) Wage determination; can "insider-outsider" theories help explain the coexistence of high levels of wage pressure and high unemployment?
(iii) Long-term unemployment; how does a person's unemployment experience affect his/her chance of finding a job and how is this affected by the benefit system?
(iv) Demographics; how will the prospective reduction in labour force growth and increased longevity of the population affect the labour market?
The focus will be mainly, but not exclusively, on microeconomics data sets.
