Objective
Development of advanced seabed instruments.
At tayport, in January 1981, the unit was fitted directly onto the chassis of seabug 1/11. And on this occasion the pilot was able to track cable successfully using the pipelok system.
The following devices/techniques and systems were developed, built and tested :
1. Instrumentation arm
This arm was designed for inspection of small diameter pipelines
(us to 10") and was used in the Gulf of Mexico.
2. Long reach instrumentation arm
This arm was built to enable rapid survey of pipelines by allowing simultaneous t.V. Video to be obtained in a single pass of the pipeline
3. Heavy lift arm and manipulator
This system was designed particulary for debris removal. It was extensively tested offshore in an attempt to salvage a ship. 4. Navigation
To provide a navigation systen that will enable the seabug operator to have positioning information of the surface vessel, and of the seabug relative to the surface support ship and relative to the seabed feature.
5. Vehicle handling
Research on the specification required for the addition of heave compensation to the existing handling system.
6. Control system
A zilog z80 development system was purchased.
7. Cable burial tool
A prototype burial tool was designed and built to fit onto the chassis of a seabug vehicle. This tool was tested in firm sand and successfully buried 1 1/2 " diameter at a rate of 6 m per minute and a pull of 150 kg.
8. Pipe tracking
The system uses a pulsed magnetic field generator which will cause eddy currents to flow in the steel pipeline.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
