ALERT Concerted Cooperation in European Pilots for TMC

Obiettivo

The overall objective of ACCEPT is to enhance the acceptance of RDS-TMC on a European level based on cross-border and metropolitan field trials and international established rules for implementation.
Research has been carried out in order to enhance the acceptance of radio data system-traffic message channel (RDS-TMC) on a European level based on cross border and metropolitan field trials and international established rules for implementation.

The 3 main national RDS-TMC projects are linked through ACCEPT in order to make broad experiments: the German BEVEI, the French Ile de France and the Dutch Rhine-Corridor project. BEVEI is a running national project funded by German authorities. Ile de France is a planned national project. The Dutch Rhine-Corridor is a running national project, partly assessment, proposed to DRIVE II through ACCEPT.

Achievements so far involve the following:
realisation of the communication link based on X.25 file transfer and manipulation (FTAM) and the electronic data exchange (EDI) like ACCEPT-header;
transfer and implementation of the ALERT C protocol into practical application; definition of the EUROAD-concept for the solution of the cross border locations;
definition of an evaluation programme for the Rhine-Corridor project.
Technical Approach

The three main national RDS-TMC projects are linked through ACCEPT in order to make broad experiments: The German BEVEI, the French Ile de France and the Dutch Rhine-Corridor project. BEVEI is a running national project funded by German authorities. Ile de France is a planned national project. The Dutch Rhine-Corridor is a running national project partly - assessment - proposed to DRIVE II through ACCEPT.

Different areas will be covered by these projects:

BEVEI and Rhine-Corridor are RDS-TMC trials for main roads.
Through cross border information transmission BEVEI and Rhine-Corridor will be interconnected.
Ile de France adds the (sub)urban aspects to ACCEPT.
Ile de France will be used as test bed for in-car TMC terminal comparison and compatibility.

Every individual project (BEVEI, Ile de France, Rhine-Corridor) integrates on the national level the concerned authorities, develops a system architecture for RDS-TMC, defines the procedure for the information handling on the national level, and tests the whole system under real conditions.

All projects are linked under the umbrella of ACCEPT in order to support issues of international interest:

ALERT protocol
interconnections between the police authorities in different countries
protocols for international communication
international compatibility of in-car-units.

Key Issues

Test of communication link between different countries.
Test of RDS-TMC across border.
Test of various in-car receivers for RDS-TMC in different countries.

Expected Achievements for 1993

Implementation of the EUROAD-concept.
Start of the cross-border trial.
Definition of the multi-country trial.

Expected Impact

The use of RDS-TMC as an effective tool inside the IRTE will be increased. ACCEPT will push the implementation of RDS-TMC with concrete results from international field trials. The impact for standardisation of RDS-TMC will be significant.
