Project description

English EN

Neurotransporters in human pathologies

The goal of the EU-funded NeuroTrans project is to establish an interdisciplinary doctoral training programme assembling an international intersectoral team of world-leading European researchers. Training will include important topics in quantitative biology, including molecular modelling, computer simulations, biophysics, biochemistry, neurobiology, and molecular and structural biology. The focus of NeuroTrans is to improve understanding of how dysfunction of neurotransmitter sodium symporters (NSSs) contributes to neuropsychiatric pathologies and how psychoactive substances target NSSs. It also aims at establishing a robust framework for investigating these pathologies through changes in transporter function at the molecular level. The project’s ultimate objective is to develop a solid model that can predict changes in NSS function employing fundamental principles obtained from quantitative experiments using an interdisciplinary approach.
