European network of clubs for reliability and safety of software-intensive systems

Obiettivo

ENCRESS was established in 1994 as a network of national clubs for users and others interested in the safety and reliability of software-intensive systems. The objectives of this project are to strengthen and extend the ENCRESS network of national clubs, particularly in terms of cross-border collaboration and integration, and to provide better coverage in new countries. The ultimate aim is to establish a European Special Interest Group linking users, experts and practitioners with shared concerns for the safety and reliability of software-intensive systems.

ACTIONS

ENCRESS disseminates information on a wide range of topics - in short, anything which is relevant to the reliability and safety of software-intensive systems is within the scope of ENCRESS. Specific topics include:

- software quality improvement
- user needs for safety and reliability
- the achievement of safe and reliable systems
- the assessment of safety and reliability
- safety cases
- metrication of software projects
- news about significant projects (including the results of other projects supported by the EC), industrial case studies, standards, commercial products and services, and events and publications.

ENCRESS uses four principal dissemination mechanisms: "Application Groups", conferences, a World Wide Web information service, and national clubs. Its target audience includes users, providers and researchers concerned with the safety of software-intensive systems, across all industry sectors, throughout the European Union.

EXPECTED IMPACT

The dissemination work being carried out by ENCRESS has many benefits for society at large, through improvements to the safety and reliability of computer-based systems of all kinds. Greater awareness and understanding of safety and reliability issues among the user community, and among systems developers, will accelerate the adoption of appropriate techniques for specification, development, use, evaluation and management of such systems. This is turn will help in achieving consensus across the EU on standards needed and to be adopted.
