Advancing European research fellowships
A consortium of 14 Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) members with 92 researchers in 12 European countries was created. The programme was open to all fields in the Humanities and Social Sciences as well as other disciplines with related issues. Through its four-year span of implementation, the EU-funded 'EU-Institutes for Advanced Study fellowship programme' (EU-IAS-FP) project contributed to structuring the IAS fellowships. A highly selective process was used to recruit the best researchers. Multidisciplinary and multicultural learning communities were created. Permanent intellectual stimulation was the result of regular encounters with fellows from an array of disciplines, cultures and scientific backgrounds. Furthermore, the work gave way to transdisciplinary collaborations. As a result of the project, fellows have obtained a fresh perspective on their research and have advanced their careers by also building international networks. The work will help to ensure that the role of IAS will be strengthened and thus contribute to the European Research Area (ERA).
