Coordination and support for environmental research

A roadmap for sustainable and collaborative environmental research has been drawn up for several European and Latin American partner institutions.

The EU-funded ENSOCIO-LA (ENSOCIO-LA: Strategic, sustainable R&I cooperation with Latin America (climate action, resource efficiency and raw materials)) project brought together 14 European and Latin American partners working in the fields of climate action, resource efficiency and raw materials. It achieved this through networking and twinning of existing multilateral and bilateral projects, which established new collaborative pathways between scientists, industry and users. ENSOCIO-LA successfully reviewed 500 projects to identify initiatives where collaboration efforts could help to address priority national and industry needs. The shortlisted project researchers participated in activities that promoted collaboration and success in future funding and research endeavours. The project initiated supporting actions where possible, and provided recommendations for research priorities and participation in programmes such as Horizon 2020. The project generated a specific roadmap summarising these actions, priorities and recommendations. Lastly, researchers developed a public online knowledge platform to record and assess projects. This included detailed descriptions and contact information for each project. Overall, this network supports policy advice and promotes industry uptake of research that meets societal challenges in bi-regional and bilateral mutual priority areas. It will also assist the EU to go beyond producing only technological advances and create strategic inputs for the political dialogue.
