The Environment Directorate-General of the European Commission has announced a call for tender for the preparation of the second Community report to the Conference of the Parties on EC implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The contract also includes the preparation of thematic reports on forests, alien species and benefit sharing. The reports should take into account the measures taken by the Community for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, whether in the field of nature conservation, agriculture, fisheries or other sectors. The second report should build upon and update the first one. The reports should make clear the reasoning behind the broad lines of community action rather than providing an exhaustive account of all Community measures influencing the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity. In this way, the report should clarify the comprehensiveness of the approach that the Community takes in the fulfilment of its obligations under the Convention. The report should draw attention to complementary actions of the Member States but should not overlap with reports prepared by them. mulFor further information, please contact: Mrs Gail Kent European Commission Directorate-General Environment rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 B-1049 Brussels Fax +32-2-299 4449 For administrative and financial matters, please contact: Tel: +32-2-296 0008 For technical matters, please contact: Tel: +32-2-295 9952
