The European Parliament's Committee on industry, external trade and research has recommended that a timetable be set on the implementation of the proposed '.eu' top level domain name and that it should operate on a first come first served basis. The committee amendments to the Council position include ensuring that a public call for expressions of interest should be published no later than six months after the regulation has entered into force. It also requests that settlement of conflicts should be carried out in a speedy and extra-judicial manner, based on the recovery of costs. Finally, it requests that the Commission submits a report to the Parliament and the Council on the implementation of the top level domain a year after the adoption of the regulation and every two years thereafter, and requires that all regulatory procedures be in force 15 months after the entry into force of the regulation, unless exceptional circumstances intervene. These amendments will be suggested for adoption at the plenary session of the European Parliament, which will take place on 27 February.
