Around 80 per cent of European enterprises are 'fairly' or 'very' satisfied with their involvement in e-business activities, 30 per cent plan to step up e-business spending next year, and fewer than 5 per cent expect to cut it, claims an 'e-Business W@tch' survey, claims a recent DG Enterprise survey. The findings are the result of interviews with over 9,000 companies across the EU in June/July 2002, and present a unique portrait of e-business take-up. Firms were asked about their current use of ICT and electronic business applications and the impact of their 'e-activities' on business processes. The highest satisfaction rates (up to 90 per cent) were reported in the food industry, health and social services, and real estate. e-Business W@tch has also just published its first series of seven sector-specific studies, assessing the impact of e-business on the value chain in the chemical industries, transport equipment manufacturing, banking, insurance and pension funding services, ICT services and health and social services. The key findings of each report are summarised in a six-page newsletter. Ways to improve the quality and usability of e-business data will be debated at a round table of representatives of business organisations and small and medium sized enterprises in Brussels on 26 November 2002.
