The UK Food Standards Agency has published a list of areas for which research funding is available. The agency spends around 26 million GBP (around 39.4 million euro) every year on research and surveys across a wide range of food related topics such as food quality, applied nutrition and food safety. Applications for research and surveys are now invited from UK and international organisations in the following areas: - Reduction of food pathogens in poultry; - Links between our diet and aspects of our health; - Hygiene in meat slaughter and production; - Surveys of dietary nutrients in food; - The microbiological quality of raw meat on retail sale; - Assessing the safety of novel foods; - Evaluation of methods for detection of shellfish toxins; - Review of programmes for chemical contaminants in foods; - Development of economic principles applicable to food safety; - Process contaminants including mycotoxins and ethyl carbamate. The agency is also seeking to appoint individuals on a part time basis as programme advisers for the following areas: - Microbiological safety research; - Mycotoxins research; - Microbiological safety for food funders group; - Safety of novel foods research.For further information on the research requirements and the programme adviser positions, please visit: http://www.food.gov.uk/science/research/comresearch/(opens in new window)
