The European Commission, DG I, has published a call for expressions of interest for the selection of a consultancy organization to provide technical assistance to the MED-MEDIA programme. As part of its new Mediterranean policy, and more particularly its operations promoting multilateral cooperation in the Mediterranean, the Commission has launched MED-MEDIA, a decentralized cooperation programme set up to establish a network of media professionals, organizations and institutions between the Mediterranean non-member countries (MNCs) and the European Union. MED-MEDIA covers television, radio and the press. It provides training in all areas of the media, encourages exchanges of media professionals, identifies co-production and distribution projects and promotes seminars and workshops on practical problems faced by the media. The pilot phase of the programme, during which 31 cooperation networks were funded, was completed at the end of September 1994. With a view to implementing the consolidated phase of the programme, the Directorate-General for External Economic Relations intends to transfer the running of the programme to a technical assistance consultancy, working under its supervision, on the basis of an annually renewable contract. Applicants must state clearly their role and how they intend to fulfil the following operational tasks: - Assisting the Commission in implementing and monitoring the consolidated phase of the MED-MEDIA programme; - Offering technical and methodological assistance to the cooperation networks in starting up and developing their projects; - Monitoring projects to ensure they remain consistent with the objectives of the Community programme; - Fostering the running of the network; - Implementing an information strategy targeted at participants, potential partners and other interested bodies; - Implementing a distribution system for the co-productions co-financed by the programme. Expressions of interest should be sent to: European Commission Directorate-General for External Economic Relations Directorate I/H/2 200 rue de la Loi (SC14/8-43) B-1049 Brussels
