The Commission has approved a Franco-Italian aid scheme of up to ECU 47 million to support the PLANET project (Production Line for Automotive New Electronic Technologies) aimed at designing a totally automated assembly line for the production of electronically-controlled fuel management systems. PLANET is a EUREKA research project that will be carried out by the firm Marelli Autronica (which has offices in both Italy and France), in cooperation with other companies in Spain and France and with university departments in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. Marelli Autronica SpA (Italy) recieves a maximum of ECU 14.3 million in aid from the Italian authorities. It is foreseen that the French authorities will award aid to Marelli Autronica SA (France) to a maximum of ECU 5 million.
