Modification of a call for proposals for the Nuclear Fission Safety programme
On 17 January 1995, the European Commission, DG XII, published a call proposals for research, training and other related activities under its specific programme for research and training in the field of nuclear fission safety (NFS) (OJ No C 12 of 17.01.1995 p. 3 and OJ No C 38 of 15.02.1995 p. 12). Following the results of the evaluation of the proposals received by the first deadline of the call (20 March 1995), all research fields concerning the shared-cost actions remain open until the 28 February 1996 deadline, except for Area A: "Exploring innovative concepts", which, since it was covered fully by the proposals received, is excluded. Moreover, less priority will be given to the following research areas, covered for the most part by the proposals received: - Area B: Reactor safety: . B.5.2. Ageing of structures; - Area C: Radioactive waste management and disposal, including decommissioning: . C.1. Safety aspects of waste disposal; . C.3.1. Waste-volume minimization; . C.3.4. Geomechanical behaviour for engineered barrier materials and host rocks; . C.3.5. Gas generation and transport; . C.4.1. Development of innovative dismantling techniques; - Area D: Radiological impact on man and the environment: . D.1.5. In-utero radiation effects on the brain; . D.1.6. Treatment of exposed individuals; . D.2.4. Intake of radionuclides and their dosimetry; . D.2.6. Uncertainty in the predictions of probabilistic accident-consequence codes; . D.2.7. Development of a decision support system on off-site emergency management; - Area E: Mastering events of the past: . E.3. Management and final disposal of radioactive waste. As regards concerted actions, the call for proposals remains open, with equal priority being given to all the research fields described in the initial call. All the measures foreseen in the call for proposals of 17 January 1995 remain applicable, except for the above-mentioned modifications relating to the research areas. Further information on the procedures for submitting proposals (information package, work programme and application forms and the contract model which will be set up with those whose proposals are selected) is available on request from the European Commission.
