Commission funding for agriculture, forestry and rural development research
The European Commission has released partial results of the first call for proposals under its specific RTD programme in the field of agriculture and fisheries (FAIR), published in December 1994 (OJ No C 357 of 15.12.1994). Of the 500 proposals submitted under Area 4 of the FAIR work programme, "Agriculture, forestry and rural development", 44 have been selected for financing by DG VI (Agriculture). These cover the following specific areas of the call (number of proposals accepted in brackets): - Area 4.1: Reformed CAP, optimization of methods, systems and primary production chains. Agriculture-environment interactions. Policy relevant economic analysis and impact assessment(8); - Area 4.2: Quality policy (2); - Area 4.3: Diversification (3) - Area 4.4: Animal and plant health (14); - Area 4.5: Multi-functional management of forests (13); - Area 4.6: Rural development (3). These projects, to which the Community is contributing approximately ECU 44 million, will be implemented over the coming months. Research will be conducted in trans-national EU teams and will be aimed at responding to the needs of EU policies and, in particular, at contributing to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and to rural development.
