Contract award notice: Radioactive waste management in the CIS countries
In July 1995, the European Commission, DG XI, published an invitation to tender for studies on radioactive waste management and restoration of contaminated territories in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) (OJ No C 185 of 19.7.1995 p. 18). Contracts have now been awarded for five of the six studies to be carried out. Details of each contract are as follows: - Contract award notice XI/C3/1166: Analysis of the medium and long-term environmental consequences of the migration of radionuclides from the Karachay Lake in the southern Urals (Russian Federation). A total of 14 tenders were received. Following assessment, a contract of ECU 200,083 was awarded to: BNFL Engineering Ltd The Victoria Harbour City Salford Quays Manchester M5 25P United Kingdom - Contract award notice XI/C-3/1167: Feasibility study for an underground repository for long-lived, non-heat-generating radioactive waste in the Ukraine. A total of 15 tenders were received. Following assessment, a contract of ECU 287,699 was awarded to: GRS - Gesellschaft für Anlagen und Reaktorsicherheit GmbH Schwertnergasse 1 D-50677 Köln - Contract award notice XI/C-3/1168: Analysis of the radiological impact on the population of the Balapan region of Kazakhstan as a result of radionuclides from nuclear test explosions via the drinking water exposure pathway. A total of 12 tenders were received. Following assessment, a contract of ECU 276,365 was awarded to: Société Générale pour les Techniques Nouvelles (SGN) 1 rue des Hérons Montigny-le-Bretonneux F-78182 Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Cedex - Contract award notice XI/C-3/1169: Evaluation of the suitability of the sites and facilities at "Degelen" and "Azgir" in the Republic of Kazakhstan as a final repository for radioactive waste. A total of 11 tenders were received. Following assessment, a contract of ECU 278,860 was awarded to: C&E Consulting und Engineering GmbH GB Umweltbewertung Jagdschaenkenstrasse 52 D-09117 Chemnitz - Contract award notice XI/C3/1171: Study on remediation strategies for the restoration of contaminated territories resulting from the Chernobyl accident aiming to assess the respective merits of a number of management options (including the one consisting of doing nothing) based on economic and radiological criteria. A total of 15 tenders were received.
