Analysis of Environmental Impact Studies
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre has published "An analysis of environmental impact studies of installations for the treatment and disposal of toxic and dangerous waste in the EU". The JRC's analysis, carried out at the request of DG XI of the European Commission, is based on environmental impact studies (EISs) requested from each Member State in 1994. The study compares the EISs from each Member State, illustrating the common approaches and main differences. In conclusion, the JRC study outlines a number of recommendations for the improvement of EISs, notably with regard to: environmental factors; environmental indicators; baseline survey; impact prediction methods; uncertainty analysis; evaluation criteria; risk assessment; and the structure and content of EISs.
