BALTICSEAWEB, a project funded by the "Libraries" sector of the Community's Telematics Applications programme, is due to be launched in February 1997. Scheduled to take 18 months to complete, the aim of the project is to provide access to Baltic marine environment information through the World Wide Web. BALTICSEAWEB will allow users to search information through a geographical interface and to retrieve bibliographic references and original documents through the WWW. Local and state governments as well as SMEs are expected to be among the prime users of the services to be provided. The project is coordinated by VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland. Other partners are the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, the German Federal Research Centre for Fisheries and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
