Promotion of environmental protection NGOs
The European Commission, DG XI, has published a call for proposals for the promotion of European non-governmental organizations (NGOs) whose principal activity is in the field of environmental protection. The call falls within the framework of the Fifth Environmental Action Programme (Towards Sustainable Development). The Commission will contribute to the funding of such organizations, with the aim of providing support towards the costs inherent in carrying out the activities provided for in the annual programme of these European NGOs whose principal activity is in the field of environmental protection. Consideration will only be given to proposals from associations which represent an independent and non-profit-making associative movement at European level, have independent legal status, and whose financial resources are not exclusively made up of subsidies from European institutions. Beneficiaries will be selected on the basis of the significance of the multiplier effect of the NGO's activities at European level, the representativeness of the organization and the geographical scope of its activities at European level. Community funding may not exceed 60% of the total eligible costs of the organizations' activities. The organizations must undertake to obtain the additional funding necessary to ensure their proper functioning.
