Preliminary results of the ISPO call for proposals
The European Commission's Information Society Project Office (ISPO), a joint activity between DG III and DG XIII, has released preliminary information on the results of its first call for proposals published in August 1996 (OJ No S 149 of 3.8.1996 p. 36). The call focused on actions promoting the development of the Information Society and aimed at bringing it closer to the European people, notably to those who need to be especially encouraged and helped. The closing date for the call was 23 September 1996. A total of 117 proposals were received, of which 16 proposals were selected. These will receive a total of ECU 4.3 million in Commission funding. The distribution of proposals submitted by area (the number of proposals selected is indicated in brackets) was: - Design of new communication methodologies and public-oriented pedagogical tools: 33 (5); - Analysis of experiences and potentialities of the Information Society, notably for women: 11 (3); - Analysis and promotion of information systems and services for less favoured social groups: 10 (1); - Development of demonstration actions, in particular in small communities: 27 (3); - Analysis and promotion of electronic systems to assist individual consumers: 3 (0); - Analysis and promotion of methods for validation of information made available on Internet: 7 (2); - Organization of events promoting awareness and demonstrating best practice: 24 (2); Two proposals were received which did not clearly fit into any of the specified areas. Neither of these was selected.
