Jobs in sustainable energy sector on TV
Progress has been made, albeit slowly, in cleaning up our environment. A whole shift in public attitude can be seen in materials recycling, adoption of alternative energy sources such as solar and wind power, and use of clean vehicles. However, to redress damage done to the environment over the last half century, continuing the drive for alternatives to oil-based energy production is necessary. To reinforce the message on energy use for the future to the public, the 'Les énergies du futur: l'environnement, prise de conscience et source d'emplois' (Future Energy) project have produced 10 programmes for television covering the whole range of energy production issues, in particular linking them to job creation. sites in different European countries that have used EU funds contributed to the series to be broadcast by the French channel TV5MONDE. The 'Future energy, the environment, awareness and source of jobs' series will be shown in 27 EU countries over a period of 3 years. Topics include onshore wind, solar photovoltaics, biomass, and geothermal and wave power. Tackling the fossil fuel legacy, carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage (CCS) was also examined. airing the latest energy technologies on television ensures that there is a capacity audience from all age ranges. The series has helped to further inform the public of environmental issues and current technologies developed to overcome the energy crisis. Also highlighted are new career paths linked to sustainable energy production.
