Food-linked agro-industrial research - Project results
The European Commission, DG XII, has published a booklet presenting the results of all the projects selected and funded under the Community's programme for Food-Linked Agro-Industrial Research (FLAIR). The FLAIR programme was part of the Second RTD Framework Programme and ran from 1989 to 1993. Its main objectives were: - To promote food industry efficiency and competitiveness; - To improve food safety and quality for the consumer; - To reinforce the scientific and technical infrastructures serving the European food industry. The programme concentrated on the processing, distribution and consumer end of the food chain, encouraging RTD in three broad sectors: - Assessment and enhancement of food quality and diversity; - Food hygiene, safety and toxicology; - Nutrition and wholesomeness. The FLAIR budget was ECU 25 million, of which ECU 15 million was allocated to shared-cost projects, ECU 3.5 million to concerted actions and ECU 5 million to studies, support of workshops, bursaries and training and mobility grants, and the management of the programme.
