Seville will host the finals of the 4th European Community contest for young scientists on 21-24 September 1992. Some 71 finalists aged between fifteen and twenty-one will come together from all over Europe. They have been selected from the more than 10,000 young people who took part in national contests held in all Community Member States and in Austria, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. In addition, as guests this year will be participants from Hungary and the United States.

The contest aims to compare the best scientific projects of the most lively scientific minds in Europe, emphasising excellence, innovation and originality. Entries in previous years have included work of remarkably high quality.

This year a wide range of projects will be presented, including detailed genetic studies of Alzheimers disease, a means of regenerating and recycling chemical compounds used in metal etching, a study of the concentration of space debris, a ten channel voice-to-music encoder, an analysis of the impact of a bridge and motorway project on a population of singing toads, a number of computer science and mathematics projects, and a control system for wheelchairs using eye movement alone.
