The Second European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 6 to 8 October 1996. It is organized by the City of Lisbon, with support from DG XI/D of the European Commission.
The conference aims to analyse the results achieved and the difficulties encountered by local authorities in applying the principle of sustainability since the European Sustainable Cities and Towns Campaign was launched at the First Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns in Aalborg, Denmark, in May 1994. It will also provide an opportunity to share experiences, identify areas where local authorities require further assistance in the creation of their Local Agenda 21 and promote intermunicipal collaboration.
