Contribution to the World Energy Outlook of the International Energy Agency

 

The European Commission has been participating in the work of the IEA since the founding of the Agency.

This contribution will support the analytical work underpinning the flagship publication of the International Energy Agency (IEA) – the World Energy Outlook (WEO). The IEA intends to develop innovative analysis on the implications of the EU Energy Union for European and global energy security, energy investments and CO2 emissions. Specifically, the action will enable the IEA to quantify the benefits and costs associated with the Energy Union in meeting the EU 2030 energy and climate targets. Implications for European and global gas trade, renewables development, electricity interconnection or (need for and role of) innovation will be quantified. Lessons will be drawn of the applicability of such a ‘union’ model for other parts of the world. The quantitative analysis will begin in 2017 and be completed in 2018.
