Abgesandte der Mathematik in Paris
Paris, das für seine Küche, seine Kultur und seine schicken Cafés berühmt ist, kann auch als ein Paradies für mathematisch Begabte bezeichnet werden: In der Region Paris (Île-de-France) lässt sich die weltweit höchste Dichte an Mathematikerinnen und Mathematikern finden. Allerdings leidet die Region unter einer relativen Streuung. Das EU-finanzierte Projekt MathInGreaterParis wird die mathematisch ambitionierte Gemeinschaft im Großraum Paris zusammenbringen, nämlich die FSMP (Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris, zu der alle Labors im Zentrum/Paris Nord gehören), die FMJH (Fondation Mathématique Jacques Hadamard in Paris Süd) und die Fédération Bézout (in Paris Ost). Im Rahmen des Projekts werden Stipendien angeboten, um den intelligentesten erfahrenen Forschenden in den mathematischen Wissenschaften die Möglichkeit zu geben, innerhalb dieser einzigartigen wissenschaftlichen Gemeinschaft zusammenzuarbeiten, sie zu bereichern und von ihr bereichert zu werden. Die Stipendiatinnen und Stipendiaten werden bei diesem Vorhaben eine gesteigerte Mobilität und Neugierde erfahren.
Ziel
Research in mathematical sciences plays a key role in competitivity and growth, and in facing new challenges as numerous future technologies and complex societal questions are relaying on advances in mathematics.
France has a long tradition of excellence in mathematics research and education, and Greater Paris Region represents the largest concentration of mathematicians in the world, with incredible successes. However, the Region still suffers from a relative dispersion. The Greater Paris’ mathematical community, namely FSMP (Fondation Sciences Mathématiques de Paris covering all laboratories in Center/North of Paris), FMJH (Fondation Jacques Hadamard in Paris South) and Fédération Bézout (in Paris East), have decided to join forces in the present ambitious Cofund MathInGreaterParis Fellowship Programme. The 60-month project is split over 3 calls of 2-year fellowships, offering a total of 74 years of fellowships.
The MathInGreaterParis objective, as a single and unified portal to Greater Paris Region, is to attract the brightest Experienced Researchers in mathematical sciences. The training activities will focus on: 1) Research, transferable skills and career development, 2) International, interdisciplinary and intersectoral secondments in research and/or teaching, 3) Wider impact of research concentrating on competitivity and outreach. They will be helped in building their future, whether in the academia or towards new industrial challenges. They will be taught how to communicate with society and become truly “Math Ambassadors”, based on “learning by doing approach”. MathInGreaterParis fellows will emerge new ambitions, educate a mindset oriented towards more mobility and curiosity, a greater awareness of the mathematics’ impact in the new economy, a greater taste for risk, innovation and entrepreneurship. This will yield in regional, national and international socio-economic benefits and strengthened human resources.
