Assessment that the doses in some relevant locations due to the 238Pu radioactive source meet the safety criteria for the operators working in proximity of the RPS. If necessary, this is achieved by designing a shield.Estimation of the doses rates in the sensitive components. If the consequent lifetimes are too short, a shield will be defined (single material or multilayer) with the aim of achieving acceptable lifetimes of the components, respecting the weight constraints.
