The main objective of the OVERHEAT project is: “prevent, detect, manage, response and recovery from fire accidents on board of containerships”. The OVERHEAT project aims to redefine fire prevention and management on container ships through innovative methodologies and technologies. By developing a Digital Solution (DS), This DS gathers data different solutions that will be investigated within the OVERHEAT project. The project will investigate the use of IoT sensors (fixed and mobile) and the use of UAVs equipped with advanced imaging capabilities further enhance visibility under challenging conditions, such as fog or smoke. In rescue scenarios, the DS functions as a digital assistant, sharing real-time situational data with stakeholders, including rescue teams and port authorities, ensuring synchronized decision-making. OVERHEAT also focuses on fostering a robust safety culture. By analyzing the causes of container ship fires and conducting risk assessments, the project identifies and mitigates hazards. Through iterative safety evaluations, best practices for firefighting and fire prevention are developed. The DS integrates with IMO-compliant e-navigation systems and vessel IT architectures, enabling augmented situational awareness. The project’s outcomes will be validated through simulations and real-world demonstrations, offering a comprehensive, cutting-edge solution for safer maritime operations.
