As an executive body, the SC has the role of establishing a formal CA and quality control monitoring by dealing with legal, financial, administrative and IP management. Furthermore, a SAB will be nominated to provide consultancy services on the experimental strategy. At the time of the proposal submission, the SAB is tentatively composed of key persons both from Academia and the Industry as indicated in Section 1.2.3. The Users Group will be developed during kick-off meeting and will initially be consisted of stakeholders from the sectors of soft fruits (BerryPlasma Worldwide, Driscolls) and PAs (BioAtlantis, Biolchim), governmental bodies and policy makers and will be further expanded/enriched through brokerage events.

Organization of International Scientific conference (si apre in una nuova finestra)

D2,4 is linked with the Task T2.4 Organization of Scientific Conference [M13-M24] (Lead: CUT)One registration-free Scientific Conference aligned stakeholder events at the premises of CUT will be organized during the end of the second year of the project, entitled ‘Application of priming agents on value-added fruit crops as a cutting-edge technological approach’. The organization of the Conference will initiate once details and road map of activities for Conference organization will be presented in the SC during the first annual meeting. Among others, the Conference will provide an overview of the main outputs derived from the project. Dissemination of results will be particularly directed, but not limited, to Cypriot Scientific Community and stakeholders. We will additionally seek to attract international participants both from Academia, the industry and governmental bodies (ministries, policy-making agencies) through targeted dissemination and communication actions. The conference will coincide with the annual meeting of SC. The experience of the project’s PI in organizing high-profile international meetings with significant scientific impact assures the efficient and cost-effective management of the required budget. Notably, Dr. Manganaris, as Convener of such events has returned to the University a surplus of > 60,000€ that were disposed for PhD scholarships and aid in the Association supporting low-income students at CUT and purchase of laboratory equipment.

The UP will lead this initiative among APs organizing the virtual training that will address the following topics: (1) Overview of Grant proposal writing (2) Types of funding models, (3) Identifying and assessing the relevance of calls, (4) Developing a hypothesis and concept, (5) Assessing the call and putting a management team in place, (6) Identifying research and industrial partners, (7) Overview of project management and implementation of the project, (8) Administration issues and legal aspects. During on-site workshop at the WI, the following topics will be addressed: (1) courses on project management, scientific writing and communication, (2) training in entrepreneurial skills, (3) presentation of case studies of successfully accomplished projects by each AP, (4) presentation of successfully accomplished Twinning projects of the WI.T4.2 Training schools [M6-M24] (Lead: APs)The APs will organize a series of 3-day (D) training schools with ‘hands-on’ practice, particularly dedicated to ERs/ESRs of the WI. The outline and expected outcomes of such group trainings are listed below:Priming in plants – agents, processes, molecular settings [UP, M6 Potsdam]Outline: D1: (a) Aspects of plant growth physiology, (b) laboratory techniques required to perform plant growth trials, (c) priming, (d) methods of conducting and optimizing laboratory techniques to measure plant physiology and molecular responses, and (e) training in aspects of plant growth facility management. D2: (a) Statistics training using GraphPad PRISM, covering: basic statistics, data inputs, parametric and non-parametric tests, managing data outputs, graphing and letter sharing to denote significance. D3: Training on key aspects of statistics as it pertains to management of plant growth/priming trials, both at laboratory and field trial scales. The training will focus on model plants and high value crops and how physiology, stress tolerance and yield can be altered using PAs. It will cover methods of robust experimentation design and methods of calculating the prerequisite number of replicates to ensure sufficient statistical power. Expected outcome: Training on plant priming and fill the knowledge gap of ER/ESRs on the field of plant strengthener products which enhanced crop tolerance to stress conditions and methods to analyse complex datasetsLCCA as a decision support tool on agro/food value chain [NTUA, M13, Athens]Outline: D1: A combination of lectures, computer laboratory instructions, and hands-on computer problems/projects on: Life Cycle concepts: Life Cycle thinking, LCA & LCCA approaches and relevant international standards, LCA and ecolabels, D2:Life Cycle approaches: strengths, weaknesses and perspectives from practitioners/commissioners, Open discussion on the LCA & LCCA tools and concepts - Commissioning a LCA project, D3: LCA software: tools, Life Cycle inventory flowsheets and balances, issues with coproducts, Commercial LCA Software training activities: (i) LCA Environmental impact, (ii) Product Life Cycle Stages, (iii) carbon footprinting (iv) interpretation, sensitivity and uncertainty analysis in LCA, Group project presentations, course evaluations, course summary and key learnings. Expected outcome: The participants will render themselves capable to perform product and process LCCA using accepted methods and tools, to understand Life Cycle concepts and the relationship to product and process improvement and environmental impact. ER/ESRs will render themselves capable to apply this knowledge to real-life case studies, development of a solid understanding of the process, data requirements and results, learning through the LCA & LCCA
