Promuovere una crescita sana di Internet e delle nuove tecnologie
L’evoluzione di Internet negli ultimi 20 anni è la prova che può migliorare la vita. L’architettura dell’Internet del futuro si basa su numerosi gruppi e iniziative di ricerca. Infatti, per finanziare l’architettura dell’Internet aperto sono necessarie numerose terze parti. Le soluzioni comprendono hardware, protocolli e software per valutare le esigenze e migliorare le capacità, come il miglioramento delle prestazioni delle reti, l’aumento dell’efficienza energetica, la riduzione dell’impatto ambientale o la soddisfazione di nuove esigenze applicative. Il progetto NGI0 Core, finanziato dall’UE, consentirà all’Unione europea di svolgere un ruolo chiave nello stabilire il percorso evolutivo di Internet e delle nuove tecnologie, migliorandone l’architettura per il beneficio pubblico e la salute dell’Internet stesso.
Obiettivo
We fund a large amount of third parties to review and upgrade the open Internet architecture (hardware, software, protocols) to increase the performance of the network, adapt it to new application requirements, improve quality of service, make it more resilient to security threats, more energy efficient and respectful of the environment (e.g. reparability, recyclability), and increasingly supportive of open and decentralised technologies and services.
With the size of the budget available and our methodology, NGI0 Core involves 150 000 to 300 000 person hours of directly funded human effort contributed to the public benefit and the good of the internet. A multiple of that will be generated indirectly within the ecosystem around open source and standards. NGI0 Foundations is important to set the course of the evolution of technology and strengthening the role of Europe within future developments. In all this we benefit from decades of experience, including significant experience gained within the various NGI efforts we have supported.
