The SCENE project supports the European filmmaking industry by making it easier to find, use, and protect digital cultural and location-based content. The project combines AI with Europe’s cultural heritage, such as monuments, historic places, landscapes, audiovisual material, and other cultural resources, aiming to help creative professionals use these resources in film production in an easier, smarter, and more responsible way. In practical terms, the SCENE platform brings several digital tools together in one online environment to help users store and organise cultural and audiovisual material, search for useful locations and cultural content, receive AI-based suggestions, access 3D digital models of European cultural sites, connect cultural and historical information with filming locations, manage intellectual property rights and distribute the films they create. Instead of using many separate tools, users can work through one integrated platform that supports different steps of the filmmaking process.
During M16–M36, SCENE made strong progress across all seven Work Packages, while the SCENE platform moved from a set of separate tools into a more complete and connected platform. The platform was tested through pilots in Greece, Cyprus, and Italy, showing how it could be used in real cultural and creative settings. Its potential users include film producers, directors, location managers and scouters, visual effects and post-production teams, cultural heritage organisations, museums, archives, tourism bodies, regional authorities, and other organisations working with film, culture, and digital innovation. The project also continued its dissemination, stakeholder engagement, business planning, coordination, risk management, and ethics-related activities. These efforts helped to prepare the platform for real-world use and strengthened its contribution to Europe’s cultural and creative sectors.
