Updated data management plan

A detailed data management plan (DMP) will be developed for making EUthyroid2 data and research outputs findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR).

The interventions have to be conscientiously prepares to warrant best possible success of the studies. The preparatory phase will comprise pretests with quantitative interviews, the finalisation of standard operating procedures, the preparation and submission of informed/parental consent forms, information sheets and other documents needed for the ethic commissions and data protection officers. In tight collaboration with WP1 and WP4, educational material will be designed and then be translated into the languages of the respective countries. Finally, ambulatory care practices and schools will be sampled and randomly allocated to the intervention and the control groups. Practice staff and teachers in the intervention group will be educated with respect to the importance of a sufficient iodine status.

Educational material

The first tasks related to WP1 are to assess health-related awareness in the two target groups within the regions, to develop a logic model for each intervention, to develop a communication strategy and organisational project management for the implementation in regions as well as to develop a data analysis plan together with WP3. In sequence, conceptual prototypes of intervention material have to be developed, with WP2 giving input of country-specific characteristics that have to be considered when accessing schools and ambulatory care institutions. In tight collaboration with WP2 and WP4 first prototype regionally adapted materials will be produced, for use in interventions. These materials will include storybooks as train-the-trainer format for nurses and assistants, main messages for professionals and age-differentiated versions for participants, information with visualisation/infographic approach, country-specific iodine cookbooks and short videos.

Communication plan

An initial communications plan will be developed at project outset, incorporating the two activities outlined in the background information. The communications and dissemination plan will set out all relevant elements of an optimised dissemination strategy including target audiences and key messages for each. Global, national and local dissemination tools, mechanisms and platforms will be developed. The initial plan will outline risk factors and countermeasures regarding the strategic aims of the dissemination. It will be reviewed and revised as the project progresses through an oversight mechanism that updates on research progress and reviews and revises messages and actions accordingly. Workplan streams will be developed and reviewed every six months.

Interview questions ready for use

Recommendations will be provided regarding questionnaires on the socioeconomic status, education, myths, nutrition, and IDD-related awareness of participants of the intervention studies. Instruments will be extracted from the previous studies to warrant comparability. All recommendations will be provided to the regional studies, and all recommendations will be made available on the EUthyroid2 websites for use in other and future research.

Specific branding and brand guidelines will be developed for EUthyroid2, based on the design of the initial EUthyroid consortium to retain a strong connection to the previous work. EUthyroid2-branded information products will ensure stakeholder recognition, and templates will allow partners to add their own logo or additional details to these materials (e.g. video, podcasts, powerpoint presentation templates, leaflets, factsheets, posters, final result reports, etc.) and will be available on the website.
