Stable high hydrogen low NOx combustion in full scale gas turbine combustor at high firing temperatures

Risultati finali

Modification of the high-pressure setup (si apre in una nuova finestra)

The assembly of the test bed at the high-pressure combustion test facility HBK-2 will be documented. The test bed is modified with corresponding mechanical extensions (special high-temperature alloy steels for housing and tubing, optimized cooling design and massflow measurement technology) to enable higher firing temperatures related to the high-pressure tests of T5.2.

Critical factors at increased firing temperatures (si apre in una nuova finestra)

TEN will provide a report covering the critical design aspects and elements to be accounted for when designing and optimizing a combustor for higher firing temperatures (>1600 K) and at any amount of Hydrogen content in the fuel, from 0 to 100% (balance is natural gas), related to T3.1.

Results of flashback experiments (si apre in una nuova finestra)

Flashback experiments will be documented in a report using the lab scale semi 2D optical accessible Flamesheet set up at different fuel compositions, power ratings and preheating temperatures (related to T2.1.2). High speed laser diagnostics in combination with exhaust NOx measurements will be used to study flame behaviour and to deliver a flashback map and detailed datasets of the flow field to be used for the validation of the numerical simulations. The format of the datasets will be aligned with the requirements from the numerical simulations.

Modification of the atmospheric pressure setup (si apre in una nuova finestra)

The deliverable related to T5.1 will be a report describing how, starting from the existing experimental infrastructure of the CCA, this is adapted to allow the execution of atmospheric tests and using combustible mixtures with a high concentration of H2.

Corporate identity: Project website, Flyer, etc. (si apre in una nuova finestra)

Provide the necessary tools and material to inform a broad stakeholder base (see also section 2.2). This includes the establishment of a project “corporate” identity with project website and supporting dissemination material (Project website, Flyer, etc).

Highspeed imaging for flame dynamics investigations (si apre in una nuova finestra)

The deliverable related to T4.3 will be a report describing the methodology developed to obtain the real time flame stability analysis, starting from the methodology already present in CCA, but as a post-process tool. More in detail, emphasis will be placed on the development of code to be executed on the GPU to obtain high performance computing and analysis of the instability frequencies in real time. Results of the stability analyses carried out on Flamesheet burner performed during the atmospheric experimental campaign will be provided.

Endoscopic UV probe for high-pressure testing (si apre in una nuova finestra)

Documentation of the complete UV probe system consisting of an optimized cooling jacket to protect the inner UV optic system against the thermal load inside the combustion chamber and the corresponding endoscope using miniaturized lenses and a flexible UV fiber image bundle for observation of the hydrogen flame behavior through OH* chemiluminescence at the DLR test facility. The development is carried out within T4.4.1 using software from T4.4.2 and related to the application in T4.5.

Improvement and validation of the combustion models (si apre in una nuova finestra)

In this report we will document the improvements and validation of the applied advanced combustion models. Typical hydrogen combustion effects that are essential to determine flashback and ignition like preferential diffusion, low Lewis number/flame stretch will be assessed. These models will be validated with data sets from the experiments (T2.1.1). Main focus will be that the models can applied to model the FlameSheet™ combustor at realistic conditions for 100% hydrogen (and any mixture of natural gas and hydrogen) at gas turbine conditions (related to T2.1).

Data Management Plan (si apre in una nuova finestra)

This is a document outlining how the research data collected or generated will be handled during and after completion of the research project. It describes what data will be collected / generated and following what methodology and standards are used, whether and how this data will be shared and/or made open, and how it will be curated and preserved. In confirmation with the EC’s requirement, a first version of the data management plan will be provided as an early deliverable within six months from the start of the project (T6.2). The DMP will be updated regularly as necessary.
