InnovAtive DeMonstrator for hyBrid-Electric Regional Application

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - AMBER (InnovAtive DeMonstrator for hyBrid-Electric Regional Application)

Berichtszeitraum: 2023-01-01 bis 2023-06-30

A hybrid-electric propulsion system for regional aircraft is seen as a promising step towards achieving a more sustainable aviation industry. To address the challenge of climate change, the EU-funded AMBER project, as part of the Hybrid electric regional aircraft thrust under the CLEAN-AVIATION program, will seek to mature, integrate and validate key technologies necessary for a megawatt (MW)-class hybrid electric propulsion system powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
The project has been successfully kicked-off with a 2 days meeting held in Turin, 21 partners and the JU attended. The kick-off gave the opportunity to present the project ambition and its alignment with the European targets.
The effort during the first moths of the project was focused on requirements specification, interfaces specification between partners and establishing the processes required for the execution of the technical and management aspects of the project.
The AMBER project targets to support the SRIA objectives and to significantly reduce CO2 emission by at least 50 % compared to 2020 state of the-art regional aircraft. AMBER recognises the importance of regional aviation as steppingstone to mature hybrid technologies leading the way towards sustainability and achieving ambitious environmental goals. The technologies in scope within AMBER project are considered functional towards decarbonising aviation and reducing pollutant emissions.
