This deliverable provides a critical review report on existing knowledge on sponge functioning for different climatic zones, soils and land uses in Europe. This includes work on defining: i) the key features covered by sponge functioning; ii) the key water challenges linked to climate change, and ii) how climate resilience can be enhanced by relevant measures including the extent to which these measures can cope with extremes.
