Regarding the project contribution the AREANA project, by reaching its goals, impacts climate action and economical agility throughout the European Union. Five core elements contribute to this, by optimizing aviation research: a clear and comprehensive strategy, sufficient funding, efficient use of the funding, a unified political vision and a sustainable implementation. This sections describes how each of these elements is addressed by the AREANA project.
First, a clear and comprehensive strategy is needed to reach the described goals. A dedicated task of work package one will address improving the framework, to agree upon a joint strategy. Work package three will contribute to provide content for said strategy. Second, an effort will be made to ensure that sufficient funding is available to reach the goals. With the development of tailor-made joint calls, either national states, not yet offering a dedicated aviation research funding program, will be motivated to participate, or existing funds from national or regional funds will be allocated to international calls. Third, by allowing the cooperation of the best participants available, regardless of nationality, available funding will be used more efficiently. Fourth, a unified political vision will provide the required political support to strengthen the European dimension of aviation research. The Aerodays will offer a platform where this political will can be formed. One of the driving entities for this change will be AZEA. Fifth and last, the whole project aims towards establishing sustainable, long-term improvements. The idea of building long term solutions is at core and center of every suggested action. The AZEA network will be one of the paths ensuring the sustainable use of the achieved results.
In practice, the AREANA project aims to achieve significant progress in order to enable optimized R&I cooperation. In this way, the contribution of European aviation research to the goals of society will be further improved. The results of the project are aimed at facilitating practical research cooperation for stakeholders, as well as at making national and regional sponsors invest more in international cooperation.
