The overall objective of the SEADITO project is in collaboration with end users to develop a targeted set of analytical methods and tools to support the development of the European Digital Twin of Oceans (EU DTO) into a comprehensive platform for making decisions towards the goal of healthy oceans, seas, coastal and inland waters by 2030.
During the first reporting period, the following work has been carried out towards the achievement of the objectives listed in the DoA, section 1.1:
This objective will be reached by addressing the following specific sub-objectives with associated indicators to measure the progress of their implementation, and their relation to the work programme.
1) To implement interoperable, social-ecological spatial decision-support components for a wide range of social-ecological models aimed at the EU DTO as well as other DTO platforms, applying a multi-actor approach
Number of SEADITO social-ecological models and components integrated with the EU DTO and some compatible with local twins. Target:10-20.
2) To develop integrated social-ecological models and indicators to assess the impact of environmental change, policy alternatives, management decisions, and their related uncertainties.
a) Number of SEADITO integrated social-ecological models. Target: 10-15
b) Number of integrated indicators to assess environmental change in shorter and longer term in different climate, socio-economic, and environmental scenarios. Target: > 10.
3) To extend the boundaries of social-ecological models by investigating and developing methodologies for analysis of qualitative parameters for capturing cultural and behavioural patterns including their uncertainties.
Workflows with tools for mapping and integrating behavioural and cultural data into social-ecological models. Target: > 3
4) To provide solutions for ensuring long-term, reliable accessibility and availability of spatially explicit data for social-ecological models based on FAIR principles and persistent protocols to maintain the connections between different types of data
a) Number of SEADITO research datasets, models, and applications published in relevant EU infrastructure following FAIR principles. Target: > 25
b) Methodological protocols to connect socio-economic with environmental data. Target: 5 - 10
5) To develop participatory processes and methods for effective stakeholder engagement and what-if scenarios on social-ecological links and policy options, to support other projects including Mission Blue Parks and Mission Lighthouses
a) Number of what-if scenarios developed in SEADITO through a multi-actor approach. Target: > 10.
b) Actors involved in SEADITO participatory processes including researchers, planners, consultants, NGOs, and citizens, spanning > 250 actors.
