ADVANCING AREA-BASED MANAGEMENT TOOLS TO ACCELERATE THE PROTECTION AND RESTORATION OF MARINE BIODIVERSITY ACROSS THE EUROPEAN SEA BASINS

Leistungen

"""BioProtect Biodiveristy Toolbox"" prototype v1" (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Delivery of the “BioProtect Biodiversity Toolbox” prototypes- version 1 (annotated video footage; eDNA biosampler; citizen science eDNA sampler; VME-ID app).

"""BioProtect CO2 Calculator"" prototype v1" (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

A first version of an app to calculate the CO2 emissions (“BioProtect CO2 Calculator”) during fishing operations will be developed and deployed to vessel operators in the NO- and IS-DSs. It will use information on the characteristics of the vessel and gear, the fuel, lubricant, and coolant, spent, and the weight of the catch and will calculate the kg CO2 per kg landed fish and provide simple reporting and graphing functionality.

"""BioProtect Marine Planner"" prototype v1" (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

A first version of the DST “BioProtect Marine Planner”. It will be improved following feedback from trials across at least two DSs, ensuring its adaptability and responsiveness to diverse contexts. To ensure seamless platform utilisation, a comprehensive support package will be developed, including documentation, video tutorials, and user guides showcasing practical workflows with sample datasets. This will facilitate adoption in the associated regions and beyond. Partners will ensure that the software will be translated into Portuguese, Icelandic and Norwegian. The “BioProtect Marine Planner” will allow users to: a) visualise the cumulative impacts pressures from human activities in the marine environment and b) identify potential priority areas for conservation measures, e.g., through establishment of marine reserves or other effective area-based conservation measures. The first prototype will be evaluated in M18 and then updated in M36.

"""BioProtect PPGIS Analyser"" prototype v1" (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

A first version of an interactive web application, the “BioProtect PPGIS Analyser” will be developed to analyse and visualise spatial data from PPGIS tools on perceived threats and risks to areas prioritised by coastal communities (data collected in T1.2). A web-hosted and user-friendly app will be developed to standardised procedures for assessing response biases and for processing the data for analysing the distribution of features mapped by the communities. Analytical tools such as heatmaps, clustering through DBSCAN, supported by response bias adjustments, Maxent or Bayesian additive regression trees, and digital text analytical tools of open text, such as structural topic modelling controlling for participant characteristics, will be included in this web application.

Dissemination, exploitation & communication plan (DECP) v2 (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Draft DECP (Version 2) will be ready by M18.

Dissemination, exploitation & communication plan (DECP) V1 (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

The dissemination, exploitation and communication plan (DECP) is a strategic document, identifying the tools and channels to be used for reaching specific target groups and establishing the individual partner responsibilities and timelines for dissemination. Draft DECP (Version 1) will be ready by M3.

Call to Associated regions announcement (öffnet in neuem Fenster)

Encompass administrative and operational steps required to initiate efficient and transparent call for transfer in five associated regions. These associated regions will receive funds and technical support to replicate the solutions developed by the DSs. The objective of the call is to augment the impact and increase the robustness and adaptability of the solutions to protect and restore biodiversity. A draft of the call text needs to be submitted to the PO via the portal one month before its publication date.
