Energy storage is a vital enabler of Europe’s energy transition, supporting renewable energy integration, grid reliability, and environmental sustainability. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can act as generation, transmission, or distribution assets, enabling cost savings and uninterrupted power supply during grid disturbances. However, conventional BESS architectures face fundamental limitations that reduce efficiency, flexibility, and lifetime.
The objective of the X-Verter project is to industrialise a cell-level controlled power conversion and storage technology that enables direct AC generation from batteries. Beyond efficiency gains, X-Verter is designed as a programmable and adaptable platform that can be configured through software to meet the requirements of diverse users, applications, and implementation areas. The project aims to mature the prototype into a market-ready product aligned with EU priorities on decarbonisation, grid modernisation, and energy resilience.
