NESS Dual Hybrid Systems – Cost-effective CO2 solutions to increased Vehicle Electrification and Efficiency

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - NESS – New Electrified Supercharging System (NESS Dual Hybrid Systems – Cost-effective CO2 solutions to increased Vehicle Electrification and Efficiency)

Berichtszeitraum: 2023-04-01 bis 2024-03-31

Kasi Technologies is a cleantech company based in Sweden. Our NESS product together with our system offerings is how we change the world.

Our EIC project marks the final step on our product development- and market entry journey with our product NESS, a compact dual hybrid system. NESS, New Electrified Supercharger System, is unique as it recovers energy 100% of the driving time, both when accelerating, driving on highway and when braking. This is done by patented design combining both exhaust waste energy recovery and kinetic brake energy recovery in one single compact product package. Due to it small size, it is supplied as a retrofit conversion offer for public- and private fleet owners with existing gasoline- and diesel cars already on the roads, thus paving the way for electrification on a truly large scale. NESS gives 20% energy- and cost savings for our customers and the main goal of our product is to get pilot customer vehicles out on the roads proving our commercial success, as well as achieving the necessary certifications needed for automotive products. In a later stage, our impact pathway also includes offering NESS also to OEM customers in series volume for new car sales.

CONVERTING FOSSIL FUEL VEHICLES TO HYBRID ELECTRIC
Our NESS product can be fitted on 99,5 % of Europe's automotive passenger and light commercial vehicle fleets. It converts existing combustion engine vehicles into electric hybrid cars. This substantially speeds up the electrification of all existing cars European roads.

20 % SAVINGS ON FUEL
Saving up to 20 % in fuel consumption means large € savings for fleet owners, retaining margins and getting their NESS product investment back in as little as 6 months, depending on mileage driving patterns.

REDUCING MEGATONS OF CO2 EMISSIONS
New sale battery EVs do their part, but still make up a single figure percentage of all cars on our roads. The NESS Product has the potential change this fast, while at the same time saving fuel costs for our customers.
The CO2 reduction potential is correlative to megatons of emissions from new and existing vehicles, for Europe alone. Also, to have any possibility of meeting EU 2030 CO2 reduction targets of 55%, substantially reducing fleet emissions on already existing cars on the roads is compulsory if to succeed.

PRE-ORDER AVAILABLE TO FLEET OWNERS
Kasi Technologies have been funded by the EIC Accelerator and are now in our final product testing phase, ready to start production. WE have already secured our four first pilot customer orders in 2023 and are now scaling up our sales.
We welcome fleet owners to pre-order NESS installations today, with an early bird discount.
So far, most of the activities performed have been connected to design, tests, and initial product manufacturing activities (Work package 1, 2 and 3). Work have been carried out mainly according to initial plan, with some small deviations in timing of execution. A bottom-up development strategy has been employed to catch up all component details at an early stage, before moving over to system testing and vehicle integration.

The first year of the project have successfully completed the first part of our final component testing validation. The project now moves into System tests for road certification and vehicle trials prior to first deliveries on secured commercial pilot orders.
Due to the much higher interest from pilot customers than anticipated (case being product not being 100% ready for delivery), and also that our customers have asked us for additional offerings of biogas conversion and IoT CO2 – and GPS tracing software, we have identified a strong need to accelerate our testing- and pilot manufacturing activities, and as fast as possible get NESS demo vehicles out on the roads. A much faster path to large CO2 impact can also be achieved if our scale-up phase including enlarged sales organisation and internationalisation can be started earlier in parallel to our final technical product development stage. Another question that have arisen from our customers is also why our retrofit Electrification offer does not apply to same tax reduction rules as for new hybrid- and electric vehicles. This is a supportive regulatory and framework discussion that we as a small company would need further support in for the future.
