CARA POSTDOCTORAL MOBILITY FELLOWSHIPS IN THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Objectif

The objective of this proposal is to fill a gap that is observed in current Irish and international funding for transnational mobility. The Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (IRCHSS) proposes the CARA fellowship programme for Experienced Researchers active in the field of the Humanities and Social Sciences. A CARA fellowship consists of an outgoing phase (24 months), followed by a return phase in Ireland (12 months). IRCHSS will offer 25 CARA fellowships, following two calls for proposals. IRCHSS will run an open, merit-based competition for the applicants and will use international peer-review to assess the applications. Adequate working conditions, in line with the principle set out in the Charter and Code, will be in place for the fellows. The CARA fellowships aim to broaden and deepen the fellows’ individual competences, both in scientific complementary skills. Fellows have full freedom to choose the host institutions for the outgoing and return phase. They also have full freedom in the choice of their research topic, provided that it falls within the sphere or IRCHSS; the Humanities and Social Sciences. This allows fellows to set up an individual research project that will support their career development and assist them in attaining and/or strengthening a leading independent position. Eligible fellows are Experienced Researchers who have obtained their PhD degree no more than 5 years before the deadline, and researchers who are about to receive their PhD degree. Applicants of all nationalities may apply to CARA. For all applicants, career breaks will be taken into account. The CARA scheme will be operated by IRCHSS. Established in 2000, the IRCHSS successfully run a number of fellowship/grant schemes and is fully equipped to effectively administer the CARA scheme. The CARA scheme enables IRCHSS to introduce an outgoing dimension to their programmes and to increase the number of researchers supported.
