Molecular engineering of virus-like carriers

Mid-Term Report Summary - MEVIC (Molecular engineering of virus-like carriers)

We are employing a constructionist approach to integrate biological complexity in the form of design principles to produce functional units from simple building blocks and their interactions. Doing so, we are taking inspiration from from biological structure naturally equipped to enter our body and target specific parts such as viruses and cells to create safer and more controllable synthetic surrogates that are equipped to deliver therapeutic loads into cancer cells.
We are showing this using a systemic approach creating defined structural motifs that are tested against specific biomedical parameters. The results are so far very promising showing several improvements from increasing therapeutic efficacy of existing drugs to enabling completely new medical approaches using existing biotechnological tools.
