Design of "tailor to made" multifunctional organic materials by molecular modelling of structure property relationship, experimentation and processing

Final Report Summary - MULTIPRO (Design of "tailor to made" MULTIfunctional organic materials by molecular modelling of structure property relationship, experimentation and PROcessing)

The aim of MULTIPRO was to develop new multifunctional material for opto-electronic devices based on solid state lighting sources, addressed to several applications. During the lifetime of the project, the consortium has developed polymeric resins in which nanoparticles, of different nature, are embedded or built in, in order to reach multifunctional material with new and improved properties. The specific material properties has been controlled and tailored by changing nature, size, composition and concentration of the nanoparticles, according to industrial and technological request.

The approach used in the project represents a breakthrough in electronic packaging because it foresees a complete integration between material preparation, processing and assembling of the final device. During the project, a new nanoparticle synthesis route has been developed and the following nanoparticles have been produced:
1. nanoparticles for enhancement of the refractive index;
2. nanoparticles for wavelength conversion properties;
3. nanoparticles for electrical conductivity.

The approach used in the project represents a breakthrough in multifunctional electronic packaging because foresees a complete integration between material preparation, processing and assembling of the final device. The consortium consisted of nine partners from three different European Union (EU) Member States and one Associate State: four industrial partners (three Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and one industry), one industrial research centre, one non-profit research institute, and three universities. In particular, the MULTIPRO project will considerably contribute to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA) bringing together researchers from east Europe and Mediterranean country with EU Member States.
