Atlas reconstruction software and data analysis

Final Activity Report Summary - ATLASPHYSICS (Atlas reconstruction software and data analysis)

The project has been focused on the ATLAS experiment. ATLAS is one the four experiments of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) which is at the moment under construction at CERN and which first proton collisions at the designed centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV were expected to occur in summer 2008. The project has mainly contributed to the commissioning of the experiment, considered the main present goal in ATLAS. Specially, to the preparations of the software: simulation, reconstruction, monitoring, high level trigger and analysis chains, in which the researcher has acted as ATLAS software commissioning coordinator as well as Inner Detector software commissioning coordinator.

In addition, it has contributed to top physics studies making use of LHC simulated data. Due to the additional LHC delay of one year, the project most relevant results have been achieved in the commissioning activity where the complete ATLAS software chain has been put in place to deal with the present data available, being at the moment cosmic rays events. Improvements on the reconstruction of high transverse momentum tops have also been achieved.
