Final Report Summary - CONCORDE (Coordination of Nanostructured Catalytic Oxides Research and Development in Europe)
Metal-oxide type catalysts play a key role in the production of petrochemicals, intermediates and fine chemicals, energy applications as well as in environmental protection.
The ultimate aim of CONCORDE was to improve the efficiency of the European R&D in the field of catalysis by oxides, by undertaking co-ordination activities among its partners so as to achieve a series of objectives:
- to avoid unnecessary duplication of work by its partners, favourising rather the complementarity of their activities and the exchange of experiences to build a well-connected multidisciplinary expertise;
- to enhance the relationships among institutions with exchanges of personnel, mutual trainings and scientific meetings, thus advancing towards the establishment of a true European Research Area (ERA);
- to facilitate the formation of solid consortia able to develop R&D cooperation initiatives for building projects, networks, technology platforms, etc;
- to promote the scientific advancement and industrial innovation, facilitating the pre-development and the transfer of know-how from the lab level to bench-scale tests and then to the practical use;
- to assess the situation, perspectives and future needs of industry and society in this realm and provide the R&D policy makers with reports and recommendations in this respect.
The coordination of RTD activities was focused on the major advanced topics of research on metal-oxide catalysts in five main areas: advanced preparation methodologies, improving development and identification of new metal-oxide catalysts, new insight in the catalytic, structural and surface chemistry of metal oxide, improving catalytic performances and discovering new applications and catalytic reaction and catalyst preparation engineering.
During its 27 months duration, the project activities included: four scientific workshops for the CA members, three open scientific conferences, over seventy exchanges and training of researchers involving 23 institutions, five big meetings to coordinate the research activities of the partners and the design, preparation, completion and delivery of a technological roadmap.
