AIRBORNE INTEGRATED SYSTEMS FOR SAFETY IMPROVEMENT, FLIGHT HAZARD PROTECTION AND ALL WEATHER OPERATIONS

Objective

Worldwide Air traffic is expected to increase threefold within the next 20 years, which raises an unprecedented challenge
for safety. New means have to be invented and implemented, in particular on-board aircraft, to maintain the current
low level of accidents.FLYSAFE will be the Project grouping the most relevant skills across Europe: Research centres,
industrial companies, universities and SMEs, that will develop and validate a complete Next Generation
IntegratedSurveillance System (NG ISS) for aircraft safety.FLYSAFE will be the first decisive step towards the
"VISION 2020" produced by ACARE, for safety in airspace, with exploitation of solutions in the 2 to 5 years following
the end of the project.FLYSAFE will focus more particularly on the areas identified as the main causes of accidents
around the world: loss of control, controlled flight into terrain, approach and landing. It will address the three types of
threats: traffic collision, ground collision, and adverse weather conditions.FLYSAFE will provide the cockpit crew with
new systems and functions, allowing the most comprehensive and accurate awareness of the aircraft safety situation
during all phases of flight. These functions will include amongothers: situation awareness, advance warning, new
human-machine interface.FLYSAFE will develop innovative new means, like the
Weather Information Management Systems (WIMS) ableto provide the aircraft with all atmospheric data relevant to the
safety of the flight, which will then be presented in a novel and friendly way to the pilot. The validation of the complete
system, and proof of results, with both ground and on-board components, will be made by a set of simulation and
flight tests, involving a representative team of test and transport pilots. The FLYSAFE partners, including key European
stakeholders, are committed to put Europe at the leading edge of innovation and achievement in the field of air safety.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
