IMPAN INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME

Final Report Summary - IMPACT (IMPAN INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME)

The project's aim was to attract best qualified young researchers from all over the world and offer them top expertise in diverse fields of mathematical research, so as to significantly develop their scientific potential and thus stimulate their successful careers both in academia and beyond. Furthermore, the project's objective was also to strengthen the international dimension of IMPAN's recruitment policy and to wide open its unique fellowship programme to highly qualified researchers from abroad, so as to make IMPAN an important employer on the global research job market.

We strongly believe that we have managed to meet the above objectives. In three calls, organized in 2013, 2014 and 2015, we altogether offered fellowships to 6 excellent candidates. COFUND has helped IMPAN to turn its fellowship programme from mostly national to truly international. It has filled in the exisiting gap and added greatly to existing fellowship schemes. The programme contributed greatly to overcoming the fragmentation of research caused by the geographical separation of people working in the same or related areas of mathematics. Furthermore, our programme enabled young researchers to join a very rich and diverse mathematical research environment. Prolonged exposure to the state-of-the-art mathematics and focused research training in a freely chosen field of mathematics resulted in their gaining a significant amount of new skills and broadening of their scientific perspective.
